Today sunny and no wind on Imperia sea, but the 25th edition of Imperia Winter Regatta confirms its success in the news touristic frame of Calata Anselmi. Winners and opinions of the organization team.

Imperia, 7th December – The five days 25th edition of Imperia Winter Regatta ends today. This year Imperia Winter Regatta has been organized by Yacht Club Imperia with the collaboration of Assonautica Imperia and the logistic support of GoImperia. The race, become a classic winter appointment for 420 (open and ladies) and 470 (men and women) classes, has confirmed its international success with the presence of 13 nations from all over the Europe and 150 boats which have joyfully occupied Calata Anselmi, confirming the great calling of the town of Imperia to become the capital of winter sailing.

Today weather was sunny but there was not a great wind for the races in program. Despite the good conditions of the weather, the wind was not so strong and stable to allow the boats to sail. At 2 PM the Race Committee has decided to close the race because of the lack of good conditions to do regular races. No races occurred for no one, the final number of races is 8 for 470 classes and 5 for 420. The event closes with a number of races sufficient to have a meaningful rank. Only few changes has been decided to the Race Committee compared with the rank of yesterday, 6th December. The complete rank is on the site, here the first three boats for each class

At 4 PM a little prize giving ceremony closed the Imperia Winter Regatta with all the athletes and a special prize dedicated to the memory of Stefano Montanari, from Yacht Club Imperia, and destined to the German Wolfgang Stenz, chairman of the international jury. Stenz followed as a judje 11 editions of IWR and this year he closed here in Imperia his carreer as a international judje.

The final analysis of Luigi Rognoni, event manager of Imperia Winter Regatta and board member of Assonautica, is strongly good: “it was a great and positive edition for Imperia Winter Regatta, because of both the weather conditions and the excellent job of the organization team, working well in every aspect. I’m very satisfied and, with me, everyone which have worked to make this IWR. Talking with the athletes I hears good and positive opinion about the races and the organization. I’m sure that the new collaboration with Assonautica and Yacht Club Imperia was positive and after this edition we have learned so much and improves our competences. So I hope this Imperia Winter Regatta 2014 will be the start for a lot of good and new things”.

The event was flawless, the organization ruled pretty well at sea and ashore. I can read a big satisfaction on everyone’s faces”.


IWR is organized by Yacht Club Imperia in partnership with Assonautica Imperia and the cooperation of GoImperia, the Town of Imperia/Culture and Event Department, Coast Guard of Imperia, Region of Liguria Administration/Sport Department.

The Circolo Velico Imperiese had been founded in 1946 and never stopped to promote sailing activities in the town. In 2006 changes name into Yacht Club Imperia, becoming one of the most active sailing club, with one of the strongest and most popular sailing school in Italy, and with a remarkable palmares of results gained by its athlets, and organizing many important event and other sport-social activities as the sailing school for blind people (Homerus project).

Assonautica Imperia is an association supported by the Chamber of Commerce that develop and promote marine and sea activities, focusing on increase the value of these opportunities in the Province of Imperia. The main event directly organized by Assonautica Imperia is “Vele d’Epoca di Imperia”, included in the “Panerai Classic Yacht Challenge”, one of the most important event for Vintage yachts in the Mediterranean ( Also Assonautica Imperia is cooperating with the Yacht Club and Sailing Club in the Province.

GoImperia is a company owned by the Town of Imperia that manages also the touristic marina in Porto Maurizio and the big boat mooring in the port of Oneglia. Now at its first year of activity, GoImperia engages in the development of all sports and sailing events inside the marina, giving the necessary logistic support.
