First day of the Imperia Winter Regatta: the 470 in the water at their first race in the sea of Imperia
Imperia, 4th of December 2014 – with a variable climate, sometimes sunny and a stable wind from North East and a variable intensity from 10 to 15 knots, the first three races of the Imperia Winter Regatta of the 470 class took place.

After the briefing the all Italian Committee of the regatta chaired by the Tuscany judge Carlo Tosi and an international jury with officials coming from Austria, Germany, France and Italy has given the green light to the first race, and at 11.40 ca., the 37 teams of the 470 class men and women started their first race with a weather forecast which predicted luckily no rain. Same conditions also for the successive two races, characterized by a little wavy sea but regularly for the race conditions.

The races took place East of Imperia, in front of Oneglia, and have been fought with determination.

ITA 29 – Sivitz Kosuta-Farneti, Jas Farneti Yacht Club CUPA

ITA 10 – Matteo Capurro, Matteo Puppo, Yacht Club Italiano

ITA 757 – Giacomo Ferrari, Giulio Calabrò, Lega Navale Italiana Sez di Ostia Lido

Sivitz Kosuta e Jas Farneti are the World Junior Champions from 2012 and are on the 17th place in the actual world ranking of their class.

Tomorrow 5th of December, weather permitting, the race start will be at 10.30am for the 470M and the 470W, and at 11.30am for the 420O and the 420L. At 9.00am the official opening ceremony with the flag-raising will take place. The IWR 2014 is an ISAF event and is valid for the International Ranking List of the 470 class.


13 Countries are represented among the 150 crews entered the event: Portugal, Austria, Germany, Ukraine, Switzerland, Turkey, Spain, , Italy, France, Finland, Greece, Slovenia, The Netherlands. The warm weather in the area of the Flower Riviera and the good wind conditions allow beautiful sailing also in the winter attracting this great fleet in terms of quantity and quality, confirming IWR at the top among the high level sailing events in Europe.
