150 crews representing 13 Countries are coming to sail on the waters of Impera the 25th edition of Imperia Winter Regatta, one of the most popular winter sailing event. This year held in Calata Anselmi in Porto Maurizio from 3rd to 7th December

Imperia, november 28th, 2014 – Also if the weather is not so good these days, the preparation to the event is going full speed on Calata Anselmi in Porto Maurizio, location for the coming 25th edition of Imperia Winter Regatta, organized by Yacht Club Imperia ( in partnership with Assonautica Imperia. Last Tuesday november 25th the event, which will take pace from december 3rd to 7th, has been presented to local Authority and to Press by the organizing committee represented by Biagio Parlatore, YCIM Chairman, and Luigi Rognoni, IWR event manager.

 “Works started on Calata Anselmi to prepare the new revisited location for the 25th edition of Imperia Winter Regatta, in order to provide a top level logistic organization –Luigi Rognoni says – Imperia is expecting a rainy week-end but the forecast for next week is good, with a changeable weather and medium Easterly winds, promising a gorgeous week of sailing for the competitors. Few of them are arriving straight from the Final World Series in Abu Dhabi, confirming IWR as an event they can’t miss”.

Less than 1 week to the first starting signal of these sailing races, and 13 Countries are represented among the 150 crews entered the event: Portugal, Austria, Germany, Ukraine, Switzerland, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Finland, Greece, Slovenia, The Netherlands. The warm weather in the area of the Flower Riviera and the good wind conditions allow beautiful sailing also in the winter attracting this great fleet in terms of quantity and quality, confirming IWR at the top among the high level sailing events in Europe.

The event is open to 420 classes (Open and Female) and to 470 Classes (Men and Women). Races will be sailed in front of the town of Imperia and will be managed by a 100% Italian Race Committe directed by Carlo Tosi and by an International Jury with members coming from Austria, Germany, France and Italy. IWR is a ISAF World Ranking graded event for the 470 class.

We’ll see sailing among all 420 crews the 2014 World Female Champion italian crew Carlotta Omari-Francesca Russo Cirillo, the 2014 Under 16 European Champion italian crew Edoardo Ferrero-Francesco Orlando (from Yacht Club Sanremo) and the Optimist 2014 World Champion at his first race on 420, Nicola Rolaz, from Switzerland.

And among all 470 crews we’ll see the 2012 Junior World Champion and 17th in the 2014 World ranking italian crew Simon Sivitz Kosuta – Jas Farneti, the italian girl Benedetta di Salle former 2012 420 World Female Champion and 2013 European champion (at that time with Ilaria Paternoster), italians Roberta Caputo – Alice Sinno, 21st on the World ranking, germans Annika Bochmann – Marlene Steinnher, 23rd in the World ranking and spanish Barbara Cornudella Ravetllat – Sara lopez Ravetllat, 25th in the World ranking


The first race is expected at 11.00 am on December 4th. Race dates are:

4th-7th December 2014, races for 470 classes (Men and Women)

5th-7th December 2014, races for 420 classes (Open and Female)

The Circolo Velico Imperiese had been founded in 1946 and never stopped to promote sailing activities in the town. In 2006 changes name into Yacht Club Imperia, becoming one of the most active sailing club, with one of the strongest and most popular sailing school in Italy, and with a remarkable palmares of results gained by its athlets, and organizing many important event and other sport-social activities as the sailing school for blind people (Homerus project).

Assonautica Imperia is an association supported by the Chamber of Commerce that develop and promote marine and sea activities, focusing on increase the value of these opportunities in the Province of Imperia. The main event directly organized by Assonautica Imperia is “Vele d’Epoca di Imperia”, included in the “Panerai Classic Yacht Challenge”, one of the most important event for Vintage yachts in the Mediterranean ( Also Assonautica Imperia is cooperating with the Yacht Club and Sailing Club in the Province.

GoImperia is a company owned by the Town of Imperia that manages also the touristic marina in Porto Maurizio and the big boat mooring in the port of Oneglia. Now at its first year of activity, GoImperia engages in the development of all sports and sailing events inside the marina, giving the necessary logistic support.
